Father Doan’s Christmas Lullaby

Fr Joseph Nguyễn Công Đoan SJ from Vietnam is a member of the Jerusalem community, former superior and spiritual director and teacher of the Bible. A Vietnamese woman, a musician living in the United States, asked him to write the lyrics for a Christmas song for the offertory during the mass. He was inspired by the paintings that are to be found in the Latin Church in Shepherds’ Field in the town of Beit Sahour, near Bethlehem. He imagined the shepherds rushing to find the child and overhearing Mary’s lullaby.

Conclusion of diplomatic mission in Jerusalem

Father Luc Pareydt SJ is a member of the Jesuit community in the Holy Land and has had a very unique mission as counsellor for religious affairs at the French General Consulate in Jerusalem. He shares with us his reflections on his years of service and the current pandemic. These reflections were published in French in the regular newsletter of the Western European Province.

New Jesuit Rector of Tantur

Father John Paul (“JP”), a Jesuit of the Midwest Province in the United States of America, began his job as Rector of Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem on July 1, 2020. The Tantur Ecumenical Institute is situated at a beautiful location on a hill in Jerusalem, near Bethlehem. It serves as a welcoming place in the Holy Land for visitors who come from all over the world to stay at this oasis of learning, community and hospitality. This is the first time a Jesuit has been named rector of the institute that is administered by the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Father John Paul is of Lebanese origin, from a Greek Catholic family.
